Must You Go?

I just read a bit about an affair between Antonia Fraser and Harold Pinter who were in their 40’s and married to other people when they fell in love. She a mother of 6 and he a father of one, both married to other people at the time when they met.

The title of this blog post is the title of the book and I love it because it was the very simple pleading question he posed to her at a party when they met. It was that moment when everything changes.

They claim to have fallen in love that night.

My friend and I always say that if men really got a hold of the list of things that sincerely said or done that  make us fall to our knees- and  here’s the kicker-actually use that list, that the world would buzz with activity and sensuality. Anarchy even. People worry about world peace- if the list got out- well I can’t even imagine the bedlam.

The list includes but is not limited to-Must you go?

The person using the list must be confident, but not take himself too seriously, not cheesy and feel he must say these things and care not of the outcome– slap in the face, huge roar of laughter and public ridicule, wine thrown at him, call to police, large bouncer plopping him on the head.

…Or better (or worse ?) -the calling of your bluff.

Flirting is not for the weak.

What is the best thing that anyone ever said to you that made you fall to your knees or change your course entirely?

  1. Nancy,
I took a quick peak at the Amazon preview of the book and my gob was literally hanging open. Telling someone it’s over so calmly is so surreal.
    Wow.
