my cup of tea

I had a bit of advice from  an old friend when I was getting married. She said – that after a long day and you plop down on the couch that you should turn to your spouse and say

“Do you feel like a cup of tea?” (insert wine, martini, glass of water)

And he likely will say “yes”

And you should say “Me too.”

And then you should not get up.

Ummm. She is divorced and so am I.

(Actually, I never really took it to heart but I thought it was funny. My father never knew where the cups were kept so I thought it was a perfect antidote)

What advice did you get? Did you follow it?

The  other piece of advice that I got pre marriage, was to hide all purchases under the bed. Never did that either but I cannot tell you how many women gave me that advice- It helps that I hate shopping- click here for my idea of fun shopping

  1. The advice I got: “Always have some money to run. Because you never know when you might need to.”

    • good sound advice- although I suppose a little unromantic and cynical. But I will be telling my daughters it nonetheless. -thanks Ellie

      • My mother said: never rely on a man. She had 3 daughters and one son. She said this years before she left my dad (took years of planning)
Ironically, i do rely on my husband. I left the workforce over ten years ago to raise and homeschool our three children. I am happily married while my two siblings (who did not rely ontheir partners) did the leaving. Sometimes i wonder if my mom’s actions spoke louder than her words: be in control. Do the leaving.

  2. such an interesting view point
I think being relied on and being able to rely on someone is one of the best possible things there is.
Good for you on the happily married- keep up the good work.
