but for the grace of God

One important rule on aging is to never use the word GOD and to steer clear of anyone who freely uses the word God unless they are a priest, have just experienced a serious miracle,  escaped a near fatal crash, or found their favourite pair of shoes on sale.

However, one phrase sums up the crapshoot we call life. One phrase sums up the luck and good fortune we may have and for which we can’t take all the credit .

But for the grace of God go I

and I am a big fan of this phrase even with the G word featuring prominently (although admittedly I only say it under my breath)

We can be lucky that our genes have given us good teeth and bones. Opportunity. High metabolism. Good arches. High IQ. Decent EQ. Decent this and that. Shelter. Resources. Unconditional love.

But more days than not I say to myself that I am so so lucky that I don’t suffer from depression. I have had enough moments in my life that could have thrown me in that deep black hole, as likely you have. I am not stronger than someone else. I am just lucky. I think it is a chemistry lesson not a courage lesson.

So when I watched this amazing guy share his story, I did say that God phrase. I want you to watch it too. You won’t regret it and it will further inform your compassionate side. Click here and think hard with all your heart. And if you are suffering, tell someone. Today.
