when you can’t find your words

It has  been over a month since I last wrote.

This has never happened before. 5.5 years of this blog and almost 1000 posts.

It is not like I don’t miss you. Writing is one of my great loves. It is a chance to scrap book slap book my thoughts, make sense out of life and share something of myself. I write to taste life twice.

When I first starting writing as a kid, I was terrible at it.  One day when you are over, we can drink a little too much and I will read you some early poetry. It will be your best laugh. Buttons will pop off your pants.

There are a few ingredients to writing well. You have to experience some shit. Not little shit but BIG SHIT. Then you have to face it. Dead on.

Check.

You also need to find your voice and keep your voice true. It needs to be yours. You need to picture 5 people, so important to you that you see their faces when you write. You pretend you are speaking to them. I couldn’t eliminate, so I have 9.

One left me permanently. And one seems gone in another way. This person is so important that the loss lately seemed to have stolen my voice. I don’t know how to get them back. I usually know what to do but not this time. I am trying to do some learning here but the lessons are still not clear.

Being accepted, admired and adored by those most important to us is desired. It is beautiful. When that slips, we can feel uneasy.  But our voice is still ours. We need to feel good about it, no matter what. How people view us is none of our business at the end of the day. We can’t make them see what we see, we can’t express our thoughts if they don’t want to hear them, we can’t unravel the layers if we don’t get a chance.

We can’t change anything but the way we react, and try to stay true to who we are.

That’s all I know.

And there is another thing but it deserves a whole post on its own.

  1. Nance – very brave of you to write this. Sounds like you have stayed true to yourself the whole time. Don’t try to change to make others understand you. You are perfect as you are – warts and all!
