the trap

While it is true I slept in 3 different beds this past week- all of which sounding far more scandalous and eyebrow raising than it really was-and sleep was at a minimum with people snoring and coughing and new beds and different pillows and too hot and then too cold-  However,  I got loads of time with my girls in the trap.

The trap is the car- for those of you who do not have teenagers. We use the trap to get caught up. The longer the drive the more effective the trap. No one has chores, homework or work in the trap. There is no distraction. At high speeds, no one can run.

In the trap we discuss sex, drugs,  and listen to rock and roll. We go over plans, wishes and sadness. We talk about what makes a good family, we laugh about what happened, we might cry a little, sing loudly, get lost, have an adventure. I tell them why I love them, how I am proud of them and why we are so lucky.

Sometimes in the silence I might say “girls, I want to talk to you about something’.

They get a little nervous.

“Is it a bad thing or a good thing?” they always say.

Thank heaven for little and big girls-click here to read my other post
