A small town in Ontario can be the end of the earth or a beautiful thing. There are a few things a small town has to have to be wonderful.
An adorable main street with a church at the front of it celebrating life
A really good bookstore with a wrap around verandah
great coffee shops for gathering
pretty public places with fountains and flowers and statues
People with a sense of style(note the mosaic detail on the door of this gallery)
and a sense of humour
Stores who write signs in fat black markers because head office won’t know and won’t scold them
OK Nancy you have obliviously not lived in a small town .! Ha.I loved growing up there in some ways as I think we are all more innocent and nicer for it, but you live in a fish bowl and have to behave yourself your whole life. Funny as my friends and I who left St. Thomas after high school used to say, ” the best view of St Thomas is from your rear view mirror.”
Now that we all have kids, we do not feel the same, but not being able to be anonymous sometimes is VERY hard.
Sue
you are right I have never lived in a small town and the lack of privacy would likely kill me although- I never thought I would write a blog and tell so much that is personal.
living in a fish bowl and behaving – not good. But then it produced you!
Sue I hope you checked out the new post today on my other blog-you will love it-xn
