proofs of love

“There is no such thing as love, only proof of love” Jean Cocteau

I have been thinking a lot about this lately because saying I love you is so easy it is practically cliché.

It is not that we look for proofs of love, it is rather that we feel love, really feel love, when it is in the walk not just the talk of ourselves and those important to us.

We have just come off of holidays and gift giving and time with loved ones. I think about the presents I give- some I am really jump out of my skin excited to give and some are regrettably just a run out of time I have no idea what to give you and these gifts make me sad. These are the only ones that feel ‘material’ in that negative sense.

When someone close to me says “it was just so you, so Nancy, that I had to get it for you” I practically fall apart with emotion. First because they know you, they have listened to and seen you, second because they thought of you and third because – just look at their excitement as they give it to you.

My girls secretly went to David’s Tea and sniffed and tasted I believe every single tea in the place before Christmas and got me the most beautiful loose tea I have ever seen or smelled, complete with a ceramic mug because they know I hate the plastic travellers and an infuser and I just cried opening it- Because of their excitement, because of the thought behind it and the sniffing and tasting and the thinking of me and because I was picturing them with eyes bulging as the tea sommelier added up the bill of this very special gift- and them going into their wallets and not caring as though money is no object.

I know. A girl who cries over tea should really have her hormone levels checked regularly.

The sign in the picture above was one of their other gifts to me.  They made it for me.

I love it. I felt love.

Ok so when do we not feel love? Well it is as subtle and as important as when we do. I have to share with you the great UN-LOVELY thing I witness everyday (do you really not know to click here? Seriously I have been begging you to click here for years and so few of you are making the connection- “Oh really? You have another site- how do I get to it?” THIS WAY, silly goose. Hover mouse over this and click. Think of it as more me in your life in 2013. Now that is a show of love.
