And with that storm came a complicated simple approach to Christmas for many. An unprecedented taking of turns at stop lights that were out. A neighbourliness that far exceeded the norm. An impressive calm and patience that washed over many who were without. A revisiting of what matters and what we take for granted. We were surprised by the byproducts of this strange, beautiful and inconvenient gift.

This is the homemade gift this year from my girls to me.  Maybe my favourite gift this Christmas. It is a mason jar with many of the things we love about you. Shut up!  I was blown away by both the simple, lovely idea and the contents. Pass the kleenex. Btw, if you want to hate me because of this gift, know that later in the week I did get some strong feedback on what they don’t love about me but I just can’t seem to find a big enough mason jar to put it all into.)
