blank wide open

You know the feeling. Does it scare you or thrill you?

I save the preparing of the large  canvas for a moment when I deserve a treat. Like dessert after a great meal or a glass of wine with someone close after a long day.

I go down to my art studio and I take a perfect blank canvas

which always makes me feel like  this

So blank wide open

(interestingly this blank wide open feeling is the one that both thrills me and scares me about my post divorce life)

I mix colour

create a horizon line

and then I prep  the backdrop

(all this is  like waking up to each day deciding how you will play it)

Sometimes I use real stones, sticks, gravel and glue and paint. Holy- 8 -year- old -delight.

The art studio is quiet. Maybe the snow is falling outside the wall of window to the right of me.

I put on some music and paint.

Shhhh. Don’t tell. Sometimes I dance.

It is my happy place.

Well just one of them.

And I love the feeling.

And I love what happens next. A few days later the kids arrive so excited to do their project. Come on over and take a look at how it evolves. For me it is magic. I know I keep telling you about this but I just can’t believe I get to be a part of something this good.
